I've been running 32bit ubuntu desktop (with compiz/XGL) for about 5 months now and I really love it (IMO the repos are much more up to date for desktop software then debians repos). But I have recently been thinking about moving from 32bit ubuntu to 64 bit (along with rebuilding my box), but before I did that I had a few questions.

1. How is XGL+compiz in the 64 bit enviroment I've been using the repos from beerorkid.net (the ones from compiz.net) for compiz+XGL. Does anyone happen to know if there is a good 64 bit repository for XGL+compiz?

2. How is general kernel support for the intel core 2 duo. I have never tried a dual core processor under linux, I have however used a box with multiple processors.

Is there anything else I would need to know moving from 32bit to 64bit. from the searching I have done it seems like 64bit packages are becoming more common, am I wrong? Thanks for the help everyone :)

Theres support for Beryl/XGL/Aixgl,however i'm not sure how up to date the known working repo's for these files are.

There should be no issues with using C2-duo. the one known issue with reguards to jmicron chips not being supported "seems" to have been fixed under edgy note: you may want to wait for users with this chip to chime in on it being fixed.

Theres scripts/howto's writen by forum member Kilz to get flash/java working under 64bit also there's a howto for ati drivers should you need this.
