It uses open standards eg SIP, but it is proprietary software!

OpenWengo is GPL'd, but it ties to the Wengo SIP service (you cannot change accounts AFAIK).

To do this, you would have to change the source code.

You can use any SIP service with Wengo, it just needs a bit of configuration. I use Wengo with a VoipStunt account for instance.
