Hey guys,

That screensaver is a very arrogant thing. For once, it doesn't save screen.

More serious. I am trying running Ubuntu as a server, I am using X to have some comfort while setting it up. That bloody nuisance takes a lot of processing power and makes my server noisy. Any chance to shut it up without shutting up the box?

You need to have a "server with X" install. No OpenOffice.org, no stupid (sorry) screensavers, no games, just basic setup with X, Gnome, gedit etc and conf tools.

Cheers,

Alex

You can easily disable the screen saver - I think it's in System->Preferences or Settings or something like that. Under 'Screen saver' choose disable or something like that.

EDIT: BTW, if you really want to use GUI to administer your server, I suggest that you shut down the X when you don't need it. Saves some memory.

Not sure whether this is helpful or not since you already have Ubuntu installed. But at the start of installation you can choose to install in the custom or server-expert mode.
