View Full Version : Made a wallpaper you want to show off?

Not you pro folks, just us novices.
Anyone have a wallpaper they made they want to show off? I have two, both of which use other people's picture stuff, and all, but still, it's not like I'm using it anywhere but on my computer...
First one is a portion of Africa that has so many craters (a lot of impact ones, too) that I thought it looked like the universe used it to stomp on when it got mad.
The second one is gnome walking on the moon.
any of you novices out there have anything to show off?

those are really good
are you using photoshop?
if you are, try sphere-izing the layer with the feet, on the second pic.
that way, the feet kind of "wrap" around the moon, making it look more real and 3d

Thanks, both of you. That was done in Gimp. I'd have done much better in photoshop, but I'm trying to get my feet wetter in Gimp. Funny thing about the first one, half the time the footprint looks like it's an imprint, the other half it looks like it is raised. The shadow's all wrong, but it just fit better where it was. I found some stuff in Gimp where you could do some semi circular distortion, but fumbled on all of them.

I actually did this one before I installed Linux, but it is still one of my favorites. The candle glow was added in Gimp.

I just found out about gnome-look.org, so I submitted it there. Then I stumbled here. 1 wallpaper, 4 variations. Made this for my photoshop final, 100% vector so resisizing it wasn't a problem.

@ AAM - I have to say, out of all of these that your brushed brass/gold effect shines out to me as the winner - fabulous design - well done, I can't say WHY I like it, but it just looks really great!.

5 minutes in Inkscape after I was tired of looking at
what I had on my desktop :P
I'm starting to use Inkscape alot a work when I don't
need photoshop or corel for an art project. Good to
get some experience with it at home. =)
Nothing special just stars, darkness, and the ominous
feeling from the depths of our hearts when everything
we know goes inexplainably wrong.

Whoa, stop the presses, people. I have used photoshop for years; started off with paint shop pro, and moved up. Then I found gimp, hated it, now learned to use it, and got to like it, but now.... Well, I just got turned on to a different program that blows me away. I think if you folks like photoshop and gimp, you're going to have a field day with this.
http://www.xaraxtreme.org/
I just installed it, and I have to say it's a bit foreign, and looks underpowered, but this baby is a serious contender for my affections. Not sure if it's going to replace gimp for me, but I'm going to keep messing around with it anyway.

Very nice find, I think this may be preferable to Inkscape. I can see some obvious features that havn't been implemented yet, but the tools are very easy to use and quickly learnable.
Even made a new background while I was at it, not my best work and I sorta freehanded the logo, but it turned out nice for a first attempt. :)

Just playing around, my desktop is red with a bunch of those same shapes transparent in different sizes, most overlapping, with shadows. Kinda bleh, but just learning. I like what you did there.

I made the eft in inkscape by drawing it on top of a photo I found through google images, and then modifying it a bit to make it look more curious and looking at the user. The leather background is from a site of free tiles and images.

Ooh, cool, a whole new idea, people or things "on edge" like they are about to "snap" looking at you, and you can see they are sitting at a desk with some other operating system viewable on a monitor, and at the bottom, it says, "feeling a little edgy? We can help."
or maybe not. Perhaps I ought to get back to work. :-k

I love all the stuff you can seemingly do with the likes of gimp etc...blender but i am just learning how to work the pc at the moment although will get round to stuff like that...
For the moment though places like deviant art and gnome.look do me fine

I know it doesn't really count as making a wallpaper (a friend took the photo, and gave it to me 'cos I wanted it as a wallpaper), but I've never been amazing with image manipulation, so I'm proud of it :D

I made this wallpaper a few days ago. I say made. I found a photo (on either interfacelift or deviantart, I forget) that I loved. Well. I loved the composition, but didn't like the view out of the door. So I cut out the external stuff and the mirror reflection, and added a different image. I know, I'm lazy and I suck. I kinda liked the result tho.
Bah. Apparently it's something like 26kb too big to upload here, so I'll put it on photobucket.

Welcome to the ubuntu forums, fayec!
Hi, BLTicklemonster;
Thank you for the warm welcome.
I've been getting your msgs but, for some reason, I couldn't get logged in until now.
Anyways, a little info about me. I used Debian for a long while until my HD died and I had to purchase a new computer. Of course, the computer came with pre-installed WinXP Home, and no amount of haggling would get the store to remove WinXP before I took home the computer.
I installed Ubuntu 5.10 onto my daughter's computer because the kids had totally trashed the HD. During use of Ubuntu, I liked it so well, that as soon as I get my pc backed up, I'm going to reformat my pc and install Ubuntu, also. \\:D/
I'm happy to be here. Lots of friendly peeps here, and I hope to be help someone, sometime.

I've been playing around in Gimp with blending
http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=21947&d=1167550822
The entire wallpaper is just blending
and this one just looks cool. Kinda like a snakeskin with ripples or something
http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=21945&d=1167547420
and this one is just a picture frame with the Mona Lisa pasted into it, but with a twist. It's used with Beryl to make it look like a wooden box or something.

Wow, vibrant colors to say the least!!
Here's a picture I took at a relative's house. I opened it in gimp, set a duplicate layer to desaturate, then bumpmapped it, and played around with the transparency. Then took the sky from the original, and copied and pasted it to the top layer so the sky would not be bumpmapped.
