I'm rather new to linux since only deciding 2 months ago to give M$ Windows the boot and install Ubuntu. So after 2 months of screwing around and learing some of the ins and outs of linux and ubuntu there was something I found lacking, I WANT TO PLAY GAMES... But I guessed it's not as easy as putting the CD in the computer and clicking the install button!
I want to know if i need emulator like "wine" or simular to install and play games? Or is there an easier way? And what about graphics and sound configs ect?

For some games it really is as easy as on Windows. I'm also new to Ubuntu but Enemy Territory has a linux version which was up and running in a couple of minutes (it even has a Windows esque installer). Unreal Tournament 2004 DVD also installs straight onto linux :)
I installed the fglrx driver from Synaptic and have full gfx and sound support in both games so im happy :) I believe other games can work with WineX (which sadly isn't free) available at -

Most Windows games need an abstraction layer like WINE or Cedega. The following games, to my knowledge, do not: Quake, Quake II, Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Neverwinter Nights, Doom 3, Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Transgaming is definately worth the $15 to give it a go. I'm both an avid gamer and a long time fan of linux. Transgaming has given me the ability to play the games I want to play under the OS I love running.
Having said that, I am also all for Linux gaming. There are a number of games out there that are well worth your time looking into. Check the list stickied to the top of this forum. Also checkout http://www.linuxgamepublishing.com/index.php and www.tuxgames.com for other native linux games.

Also, if you have a console and a TV tuner card that works with Linux (like a Hauppague WinTV), you can use the tvtime app to play your console games on your Linux box.

Sorry, but i donīt get this. Do you mean this "console" like xbox that has linux installed in it and use it as "media extender" :D or some emulators that can run like GBA, NES games etc?
As far as i know there are no emulators for this generation (PS2, XBOX, GCN, DC) game consoles that works with PC
