I know that System76 laptops include a customized installation of Ubuntu, but should any distro work out of the box?

I'll be installing Edgy if I buy one, and I was wondering if all the hardware will work OOTB, or if there is some sort of special drivers included in the custom installation.

We support Edgy on all our our systems (as well as future releases). Most everything works OOTB - we make modifications for sound and microphones on some models but with our driver it's easy to install them. We also have some drivers in development for cameras and other advanced devices we're intereted in. They're being developed under the GPL license so they will be available to everyone once released.

ok, one more question, and i'll tack in in here rather than make yet another thread:

any chance of ever seeing bluetooth on a future 14" model?

We will have a bluetooth module available for the Gazelle Value shortly (just waiting on stock). I'm not sure about the Performance model.

dang.

what's the difference between the two anyways? I know the value is more upgradable, but other than that, the entry level of the two look pretty similar

so Edgy is support pretty much OOTB? I believe my gazelle performance will be at my doorstep on Oct 2nd or 3rd :). I was thinking about installing Edgy, then installing Beryl.. this is supported? Does my laptop come with these drivers you mention on disc? The website is not quite clear what ships with the laptop.. is there an imaged disc of my system I can use to reinstall with your factory default image you use?

You'll receive a restore disc that takes the system back to it's original state. Edgy driver updates won't be available until we get closer to Edgy. Feel free to put Edgy on there or any other distro - you can always use the disc to restore. The only caveat is that we only officially support Ubuntu so I can't gaurantee results with any other distro.
