Ok, so in #15, we said that we are going to be mailing out, for free, Ubuntu Podcast stickers.
Only thing is that we don't know what logo to put on the stickers.
We currently have 3 submissions for the Ubuntu Podcast Logo. Please vote on the one that you would like to see used as the logo for the podcast.
Submission #1

Submission #2
http://ubuntuos.com/podcast/logos/sub2.gif
Submission #3
http://ubuntuos.com/podcast/logos/sub3.gif
If you have your own submission, please just email podcast@ubuntuos.com with it attached or just post on this thread with a link to it. It will be added ASAP.
Thanks, Josh.

I'd have to agree with ericesque here, netcast is a safer word to use.
Apple have been trying to sue companies that use pod in their name recently.
While I personally don't think Apple have a case to do this, as pod is actually a word (how do you trademark a word in the english dictionary?).
Anyway, I'm starting to ramble now. Check out:

I have heard of the Apple lawsuits. If you read the wikipedia article on podcast, you will find that Apple didn't have anything to do with the name podcast.
A few other things. Apple was sueing the people over products, a podcast is not a product. If Apple is going to sue us, they are going to have to sue alot of other people to.
Podcast is a generic term, the only relation to Apple here is that they support it in iTunes, and that it has that name becuase the ipod was the most popular pmp at the time.
If there is enough support to change the name, I will propose it to the podcast team, but for now I don't see anything wrong with it.
Also, it looks like #1 it may be. If we get plenty of votes in a short period of time, I may decide to use the winner insted of wait a little longer. Make sure to get your submission in if you haven't already :)

Looks like the public has spoken. 20 for sub 1, while only 5 votes combin for the other two.
I have requested a hi-res version and will forward it to Sal to get it turned into some stickers.
Then I will write a script and put it on UbuntuOS so people can request them.
Please remember, we can only do this with donations and ad revenue, and as we are cutting down on ads, we probably won't get much from that. When the script is up and we are posting them off, there will be a donation button there as well.

I am still waiting to hear from James. The idea was that we were going to move to another CMS (if you could call WordPress) a CMS, but that has been put on hold.
As it is now school hols (;)), I will have some time to search for some stories and blog them :)
The main reason that I stopped was that I wanted to wait for the CMS and server move to be over, but I don't know how long that will take now. I also believed there were many other blogs that covered as much as I did, but if people want me to keep blogging, I will :D

Numbero one. I still can't get over how sexy the reflection effect can be on certain site logos. :p

Here's what I thought about the three, quickly summarized:
1. Nice Web 2.0 style reflection, a bit of a gradient, though the contrast in the top of the letters could be better.
2. I don't like the bubble effect around the words at all. Same contrast bit.
3. I think the letters need anti-aliasing and a bit more variety than just black.
A little constructive criticism. Maybe it can help the designers improve the next time. Thanks for making these logos whoever did it!

I like the second submission a lot. Looks a little different and experimental. The first is good as well, very professional looking.

The 3rd logo got a bad rap. Thats a bad image scaling job. the original isnt all jaggedy. unfair vote

Well, as other post have said Apple Did not invent the term "podcasting" I know this because I work for a college that has done work with Apple, and I heard this from Jessie Smith an Apple Eduactional sales rep who we work with that Apple did not invent the term podcasting.

I personally think UbuntuCast would be nice.
Eventually I think that the <POD> will be as much in the ways as <WWW> is.
