That's funny somehow. If I had to guess, months ago when you started posting your distro-hopping experiences, I would not have even thought of Knoppix.
But that's cool. I'm with you on Ubuntu and Dreamlinux. Personally, I think DL has the potential to mature into a very strong distro.
I'll have to look closer at Knoppix and Sabayon, since they come with such strong endorsements. ...
I am reinstalling Sabayon...I miss the bling...
I honestly believe Sabayon will be the distro to put OS X and windows to shame....Sabayon is the first serious Linux OS contender....Dreamlinux is nice also but isn't quite there yet....they will be soon...
The thing with Sabayon is you really need the latest and greatest in hardware and lots of space....this is why the future belongs to Sabayon....
If you want to see the future of operating systems try Sabayon today...
If you want to see what OS X could be if it was GNU + Linux try Dreamlinux....
If you want unrivaled reliability, a true technical gem in the Linux world stick with Knoppix.
If you want a reliable OS, with a wonderful community, stick with Ubuntu.
If you want to dabble in BSD, then try PC-BSD.

Please Note:
Sabayon 3.0 mini with aiglx is running fine on my PII 400, FX5200 video card - so it will work with older equipment.

What about PCLinuxOS. I think Texstar and the ripper gang have done a great job...
It would definately be in my top 5.

It would definately be in my top 5.
I would have to second that emotion! And for my 2 cents I'd add Mepis. I read an interview with Klaus Knopper where he stated that Knoppix was never intended to be an installed system. Has that changed? I've not messed with Knoppix since version 4.0 on dvd. If you like bleeding edge Debian with top of the line hardware detection, give Kanotix a look.

I have heard good things about PCLinuxOS but it won't load on my hardware so I couldn't include it on my list. My hardware is a acid test of sorts.
current 411, I am back to using Knoppix 5.0.1

Mepis is too buggy and a bitter disappointment...I have to try Kanotix....in spite of what Klaus says...I find Knoppix the most reliable distro to install on my harddrive....or Knoppix derivatives of which there are 50+ including Kanotix, Dreamlinux, Musix, Quantian, Xplora, etc.

just tried Kanotix...big disappointment, it is basically just Knoppix that doesn't work.

I have a feeling that on a Ubuntu forum that Ubuntu will win... I like Gentoo the most, but for computers that I want to setup quickly then I like Ubuntu.
