Heya,

My friend and I are trying to play Quake3 over the net (he's in MO. and I'm in WI.), and we've had some problems.
We have (to my knowledge) each others IP addresses, but it will not connect. It just keeps counting up, but nothing happens. No big ping or anything like that.
I talked to a person from my DSL provider, and he said to turn NAT off. I go into the router's settings, turn off NAT, restart, and try Quake3. Quake3 doesn't start, but the desktop is not there because it switched to Q3's fullscreen. I end up having to ctrl+alt+backspace to get back in.
I'm going to call the DSL guy again, and hope he has another solution, but if anyone has had this sort of problem and know's a solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance

Nevermind. Found out it is a port fowarding deal through my router.
Have to talk to the DSL people because the help I find on google doesn't exactly match my router's menus and such.

Thanks any way though.

I was able to resolve the problem. For those of you who might have the same model of router as mine, port forwarding is under Application Level Gateway. It'll have a list of preset games. You could use Elite Force, which uses the same port numbers, or go to User and create a Quake3 profile.
