View Full Version : Strange problem with my Live CD

Hello, I am very new to Linux and was curious about trying out Dapper Drake. I downloaded the 64-bit desktop CDs for both Ubuntu and Kubuntu 6.06 LTS. I gave Kubuntu a spin, and things worked well but when I tried Ubuntu, it wouldn't respond to my keyboard or my mouse. Both were securely plugged in. I had to do a hard reset and I told the CD to check itself for errors - and there were none. I'm finding this really strange since Kubuntu and Ubuntu are essentially supposed to be the same. Did I just get a bad ISO file, or is there a bug in this version of the keyboard and mouse drivers for Ubuntu? Both my keyboard and mouse are in standard PS/2 connections.

Strange things happens with those LiveCDs, especially if you have an ATI graphics.
One guy rebooted his pc 13 times before livesession started and he did not have ATI.
64-bits seems like have their own problems så you may have to reboot (reset) 26 times with Ubuntu LiveCD

Haha, no thanks. I'm not using ATI, either. If Edgy is really coming out in October, I might wait for that.

I will agree with the fact that the live cd for the 64bit version could use some work. If you are having problems, especialy if you checked the md5sum of the iso and the cd. Report the problem a a bug. If the people developing the cd's dont know there is a problem it will never get fixed.
That said, I totaly recommend the alternate install cd. If you already know you want to install Ubuntu it will avoid some of the problems the livecd has.

I'd be happy to report the bug. Being as I don't have PartitionMagic yet, I don't want to commit to installing it yet - my data is precious.
