One of the greatest new features for laptop users in Ubuntu is network-manager. With this shiny new application it is finally easy to connect your Ubuntu system to any wireless network. Where previously you had to jump through hoops to do WPA or 802.1x authentication, network manager makes this completely transparent.

IMO, wireless in Ubuntu is just a small step above average. I've always had better luck using tools like wlassistant in Gentoo or the wireless in SuSE.
The problem I often have in Ubuntu is getting my SSID to stick whenever logging onto a network that doesn't require a WEP key. Sometimes it requires me to change SSID/key, hit ok, wait for it to time out, and reboot before it will connect.
I never had this problem in SuSE or Gentoo.

I personally use Wlassistant on Ubuntu GNOME. it works perfect with my laptop moreover it even detects wireless networks which XP never detected.:KS

Wireless in Ubuntu is just as good as it is in any other distro. No more, no less.

What kinda sucks is that pretty much always the first time it doesnt work it connects but i can't reach a page.. then i need to reboot and it works.. same when it goes to standby. im connected and it doesnt connect. Logging out and in doesn't work i need to reboot whole pc just to connect again :( So it is far from perfect.

I can't connect to unencrypted networks.. Interestingly enough I can connect to unencrypted networks using NetworkManager in Arch Linux but I can't connect to my school network which uses PEAP/MSCHAP with Arch but that works fine in ubuntu.
