I recently posted a howto, but embarrassingly it got 0 views :-k . So I looked up around and saw that ther were plenty of other howtos with zero views.
IMO a bit of waste.
Solution:
1. More threads in a single page, like: my.opera.com
2. You may want to give iotional suforumd to howto, since there are so many.
3. Somehow seperate active howtos with dormant ones. Active ones being where ppl require help with somrhintg. And direct ones being just scripts of deb packages.

On the otherhand the search functoin is pretty good, so nothing may be needed. But it couldn't hurt to give threads a longer stay at the first page. Another good example is the newbies forum, that cld really with some more threads on the front page.

I recently posted a howto, but embarrassingly it got 0 views :-kIt's because your thread has been approved just 2 hours ago, so it has been readable only for 2 hours.

You're right, it shows the date when you posted the guide but because each guides need to be approved one by one, there's always a delay before the guide becomes readable for everybody.
We try to do that as fast as possible but indeed there's a delay which is in general half a day or one day.

It's the best way we found to keep this section clean.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

No problem, that was just an example.
my suggestion for more threads in single page specially for the newbie forum is still there btw ;)

The number of threads in a page is something you can set in your option (See User CP), however since we have "lack of RAM" problems i believe this choice is restricted.
