It sounds as if Suse and Ubuntu are the better (or best) distros for detecting everything in a laptop.
I'm looking at getting a laptop in the next few months and am currently looking at a Lenovo. I want to install a Linux on it (dual-boot with Windows).
Does anybody have an expereriences and/or recommendations about one distro or the other for a laptop? What features work / do not work either out-of-the-box or with a little monkey-ing around?

I haven't compared the two, but I found Ubuntu to work pretty well on an "old" (3 years) Dell laptop. Only the power management (can hibernate but not suspend properly) is a bit dicey, which I assume is due to the age of the machine.

The Thinkpad T60p seems like a good bet. (http://www.lenovo.com/news/us/en/2006/08/t60p.html)

Lenovo charges $3,099 for that notebook with Linux installed (T60P Linux Mobile Workstation)
Pricing and Availability
Both the 14-inch and 15-inch ThinkPad T60p Linux Mobile Workstations will be available beginning August 15th via the Lenovo Web site, www.lenovo.com and through select business partners. Prices start at $3,099 for 14" models and $3,199 for 15" models.
But, if you buy the same Notebook (T60P) with Windows installed they charge you $1,829

That's quite a bargain. You only end up paying $1,270 more for a copy of Suse Sled 10.
