There are very few games being ported to Linux, and if there is some new out, you should buy it.
So did I with Darwinia - but Im posting here because it turned out to be real genial.
If you are not scared away by the strange graphics, which I pearsonally like very much, you will discover an innovative and creative game similar to Black&White, but unlike it making fun even over a long period of time.
Here you go for the Demo:
http://darwinia.co.uk/downloads/demo_linux.html
and here are some teaser-shots i took:

My darwinina has been acting up lately, it crashes when going into a map.
I think it's the sound locking up... does darwinia use ALSA or??? what?

Darwinia uses OSS by default. You can tell it with some enviroment variable to use ALSA, but I can't remember what enviromnt variable it was. I'm sure if you read the readme it will tell you.
One last ditch solution would be to delete the .darwinia directory in your home directory. It would delete your progress in the game, though.

I've played (and beaten) the Windows version.
Kick butt game and quite original. I wouldn't really compare it to Black and White though... more like a normal Real Time Strategy.

Seems like I've reached a bug, when you proceed far into the game a bug
with the Armour units gets Darwinia crashing, it will be fixed in the patch.
at least I hope that's the error :)

omg excellent game :)
When I first saw the screenshots a while ago I thought it would be rubbish but the gameplay on it is brilliant and the concept really keeps interest. I downloaded the demo earlier and ended up buying it a hour or two later :D
I like the oldskool bootloaders aswell :)

I'd love to try it, but when running the demo, I get
andrew@LDell:~/darwinia-demo2$ ./darwinia
.
./lib/darwinia.bin.x86: ./lib/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.2.0' not found (required by /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6)

Go into the lib folder in your Darwinia folder, rename "libgcc_s.so.1" to something like "libgcc_s.so.1.bak" (forcing the game to use your system libgcc instead of the supplied version). Run the game and all should be well.
I've played the game. Haven't finished it, but it's all good.

Are you on ubuntu 64bit?
Edit: the symptoms show that you are. Try this guide: http://gaming.gwos.org/doku.php/guides:64bit:darwinia

I found this game crashes and locks up my computer. It does it at the same place in both MS Windows and Linux. Right at the start where the guy is saying something about this day being special for darwinians. Then I discovered if I skipped the intro it would play, but later into the beginning just after you research the grenades for the darwinians and try to connect to the next island, his speech starts again and it locks my machine up.
The graphics look good, but I can't play it :(
I fiddled with some of the settings in graphics and sound and now the game stopped crashing. However I don't know what settings did it.
