OK...

Perhaps I am just not looking in the right place for benchmarks... but...

Which would be better, an nVidia Geforce Go 7200 with 256 MB of ram, or a 7400 w/ half (128 MB)?

Just a guess but Id image that you would get more performance out of the extra ram rather then the speed in this case.
Its just that a lot of these companies call something 7200 with its clock only running a tiny little bit slower then a 7400. Thus giving hardly any advantage over the other.
Its to sucker people into buying more expensive things.
in summary Id go with the nVidia Geforce Go 7200 with 256 MB of RAM. But maybe someone else knows more about the specific products in question.

More RAM generally helps with higher texture quality and higher resolutions, otherwise speed is generally more helpful. Also, keep in mind that in a laptop it's likely sharing system RAM.

In this case clockspeed would be more helpful, unless you love playing at very high resolutions. (which you wont be able to do with decent frame rates in most of the newer games)
