I was going to release these later, but I like them too much. All released under the GNU GFDL licence. Click for larger, all are 1600x1200.

Nice backgrounds. Seems that I'm not the only one that uses that website, or maybe someone was viewing my "Do You Ubuntu?" thread.

ehm... the first one is basically winXP :)
I'd work a bit on the lavels of the photos, they sometimes lack density... and I think it would be looking much better if you'd leave away the shadows... but that's because I personally dislike photoshop-made (or gimp-made) shadows (well... as long as you see them of course)
anyway... the second picture is really a nice one!

Yes it is :). Hopefully will help ease the Windows-ers into the GNOME layout.
If you leave out the shadows, the "glass" looks really weird. ex. here (http://www.freemediaresources.com/ubuntu/wallpapers/Windmillnoshadow0.png).
Glad you like it. I like the 3rd one best :).

You're right... that looks strange...
Now that I see it I get some idea... thinking about somehting like the effect the glass window bars make in compiz... know what I mean?

just to give an idea of what I was thinking about...
I made this one... just as a test, in fact the picture I used I really grainy and not well suited as a wallpaper...
I used a gradient over the glassy white stripe and put some clouds on to as a kind of reflection.
the shadows are set to colour burn and have a low opacity... so they are a bit softer.
I colourized the sky orange... but of course I could have left it blue. anyway... just a test... nothing more.

nice work hanzo! =) changing the color of the sky was a good move, not only because I don't like blue in general.
as for smartalecks, the third one is the best in my opinion. :)
it's great to see some ubuntu-art being made. I always thought that was somewhat lacking. usability and performance in ubuntu has always been outstanding (well, I've only been using ubuntu since january, but at least since then) but the "good-looks-department" is not what it should be.
now, let's see some work with a bit more subtle use of the ubuntu logo, like the "Dawn of Ubuntu"-wallpaper included in dapper. that would be cool.
EDIT: duuuh... I just realized that the "snowflakes" in "Dawn of Ubuntu" isn't the ubuntu logo. I just always figured they were. oh well...

but that would be a great idea... must try that one day...

I hope you do. Even though I have made images myself with i big blurted out logo I very seldom use that kind of images as my desktop background, no matter how good they look otherwise. I prefer to be sublimely programmed by not-so-obvious hints than to be brainwashed with artistic violence.

oh you cannot imagine how much I agree with that! :D
sometimes I switch to plain colour because having too much stuff on my desktop makes me nervous.
in fact I wonder how people can live with some self-made messy photos on their desktop... it all gets a big mess...
in the end some abstract, smooth and simple backdrop is the best...

those first were pretty. Bright and positive. Should e defoult in ubuntu, not some depressive, dark brown background :)
IMO :)
