i am revewing software on linux for blind users and to my dismay it is hard to find and even harder it install but once you have found it and got it installed you then have to spend weeks reading websights to find that hidden link to tell you what dependancy you are missing and why even though you have all your dependancys installed your system still wont speek to you. I am ashamed to say it but ppl we are letting down the blind very badly here if I a fully sighted person can get and install the software for blind ppl how are they suposed to do it. This is UBUNTU we are supposed to be about helping others and beeing one big family and yet we have left our blind brothers and sisters out in the cold all the software like orca and gnopernicus seem exalent but sotware for desabeld people sould be installable from synaptic or from the disc and working straght away not running round for dependacys and they should not have to spend (as i did ) a day finding out what they are in the first place. I have seen this software working on a blind persons mashien and it is exalent for them but yet again i am sorry to say he was completly dependent on a group of friends who between then had to install it for him and when it takes 8 linux longterm users 6 months to install it this is a big put off for any blind person

Yes, I agree that it should not be that way. Unfortunately accessibility has been a low priority in Linux for many years. We are trying to change that, but it's taking time. Your help will be much appreciated though :)
Can you give some more details about what you tried to install and what dependency issues you encountered?
Can you also try running Orca from the Edgy Live CD (following these instructions (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=246334)) and let us know if that improves things? Thanks!

You can upgrade by changing the occurances of 'dapper' to 'edgy' in the /etc/apt/sources.list file and then running:
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
Not that Edgy is still in the Alpha stage though, so expect some breakage.

You dunces don
t you know that there are certain things the blind can do that sighted people can do better, "LIKE CONFIGURE VOICE SYNTHESIZERS"!!! YOU NUTJOBS THINK YOU KNOW IT ALL WHEN IT COMES TO COMPUTERS, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO THE BLIND AND ACCESSABILITY NEEDS LET THE BLIND HANDLE THE BLIND   mad:      Now that I got that out of the way, let me sho ya'll how it's done, you probably didn't set the verbosity to the proper settings for that system
