I know this isn't about the forums, but I couldn't find an "Ubuntu.com Discussion" fourum.
I think shipit is great, but it doesn't really work in the real world. I've seen videos on the interent of windoze lovers getting about 100 CDs/DVDs from shipit, just to destroy them and put a video of it on youtube. Maybe you should start charging about 20 pence per CD and 50 pence per DVD, just to cover the costs of making them and stop people from buying them just to destroy them. Most businesses will only need about 1 or 2 DVDs, costing a grand total of £0.20-£1 (not quite as much as windoze), however, it would cost people who want to buy hundereds just to destroy them about £20-£40.

Yes, but alot of users can't download Ubuntu because their internet is too slow so they order the CD. But they aren't going to pay for something they can get for free so this will cause a massive decline in Ubuntu users. And anyway, most people use the CD's for the right reasons.

I saw those videos too, I don't agree, I think we should refuse to let a few bad apples spoil the great program for all.

I've actually given out five ubuntu and five kubuntu cd's to the people who are in charge where i work, it is a truly great customer service that might lead to my company using Kubuntu and paying canonical for 24/7 support of it.

Firstly, it's unreal that people are this sad. It's just an OS.
Secondly the fact that they are doing acknoledges Ubuntu's increasing popularity and even anyone actually see's the vid's then it might arouse their curiosity to find out what Ubuntu is.
Lastly there should be a Max limit of 5 with a special requests email or something for people who want more than that number who have to give justification for ordering so many CD's or a small charge for so many CD's.
edit--
Finally, I am one of the people on a slow connection using Ubuntu and a student with no credit card or paypal to get Ubuntu. Payment doesn't work, it just cuts off users like me. Besides these people will pay to get the CD's to destroy.
They got an Xbox 360 for 400 quid at launch to destroy it, it's on youtube.
They got a PSP on launch for 250 quit to destroy it.
Money isn't the issue, they are just ignorant and have nothing better to do.

Blatent disregard for anything...
Is this valid and true ( can't verify due to internet restrictions where I am )....
Some peoples babies... geeze... it really tests my faith in humanity!

hhhmmm charging for the cds would make it impossible for students like me and other ppl to order ubuntu.. what would the people mentioned here accomplish? it's not as if breaking a 100 cd's would affect canonical, it's much bigger than that.. just a bunch of loosers with nothing better to do.. Let's look at the amount of new users Ubuntu is getting because of the shipit service being free. I know several people who I told about the service and most of them ordered their own cd's and then started using ubuntu as their desktop os

Some people will abuse anything.
People abuse knives, guns, sticks of wood. Should we stop distributing them?
I've seen a video right now about some fat guy demolishing ubuntu cds. What can I say? Stupid of him, right. But do not deprive other needy people because of him.
That said, I believe the orders should be more restrained. No orders above 10, anything more you send an e-mail to Canonical and they send it to you if they approve.

Make it a max. of 1 CD per address, or charge for it.Some people will always abuse free services.

I like that idea - but maybe not so restricted. 2CDs per address per month maybe? Except for businesses, schools etc which may need more.
