o.k
i have downloaded Ubuntu Linux yesterday and coundnt get it to run, i was advised by my current OS to get a program to open the .iso files.
I did this and nothing happened then, ive tryed just about everything(ie. rebooting with CD in, trying to copy the inner files within the iso to another CD-RW)
Ive tryed alot of things, nothing works though :(

Enter your BIOS and set it to boot from CDROM first, then insert the CD and it will boot.

For most BIOS you should press the 'del' key when booting.

did you burn the iso properly? (eg with nero - "burn iso")

First windows built in cd-burnning will not burn iso files it just makes multisession backup cd's and audio cd's so don't use that. use a new disc and burn the .iso file using nero's burn image to disc function also select the disc-at-once mode this should solve the cd problem see if it boots correctly after that. if it still won't boot
then try changing the boot order in the bios.

Make sure you don't put the iso as a file on the cd. If you are using nero, I think you should go to file -> burn image and then select the iso.

For Nero 5.x do the following:
Launch Nero.
Choose File, Burn Image and you'll be presented with a dialog box.
Click on the Files of type: dropdown box and select All Files (*.*).
Select the .ISO file you downloaded then press Open.
Next, Nero will show another dialog box of CD burning options. Accept the defaults:
Type of Image: Data Mode 1
Block size (Bytes): 2048
Image header (Bytes): 0
Image trailer (Bytes): 0)
Choose OK.
The Write CD dialog box should appear next.
Make sure Write, Finalize CD, and Disc-At-Once are checked, then choose Write.
Tips:
You must use the “Finalize CD” and “Disc-At-Once” option in Nero, or you will get the error: "FATAL ERROR: Installation
of side by side assemblies failed" during setup.
You must specify *.* for the file type to see the .ISO file.
For Nero 6.X
Launch Nero.
Choose Recorder / Burn image
Browse to the location of the ISO file and select the ISO file you want to burn to cd/dvd
Check the option "Finalize CD (No further writing possible!)
Click on "Burn" now.
