Hi I have been thinking of ubuntu servers and accessability compared to other servers and thought it might be possible to develop a server desktop that would have the advantages of both the Linux light weight and a gui ability similar to win2000 etc.

Anyways what I was thinking is possibly something with python based on an interpreter language such as python so it only runs and puts a load on the server when the server desktop is utilized. I was also thinking of something similar to a web browser type program for the server desktop and a interface for remote administation. The server-Server could be very light and have support for a very light screen interface possibly utilizing exzisting programs modified or ported to python to allow as much funtionality as a Win2000 Gui and the light weight of a bare server other than taking up a bit of hardrive speace.

Now another aspect of this would be that the s-server would work on config files in that it may be possible to have the s-server update the config files and possibly have it so there is a server refresh option like a browser type thing to impliment the new set up with a softbook that would be very quick.

I am not no server expert but the input of of others is welcome

Have you looked at phpadmin? It provides a web interface to most admin tasks.

I have heard of web admin packages but this idea is more to have a server dependant admin package that can run on the server to counter the GUI of win server packages.

Just thought of something interesting for Ubuntu server and a light weight GUI enviorment for Ubuntu server that only put a load on the server when run. This may also carry over to remote admin.

Now for years M$ has been pounding away at linux server stating that win is cheaper in the long run. Im not even shure if that has any shread of truth. However to answer this it may be possible to develop some server tools that may pound back.

First as mentioned about the ability to have a watered down xserver type program possibly based on an interpreter that would only put a load on a server when run. Remote administration that works in unisen with the server desktop but without running the GUi.

Now as for server sxpense it may be possible to hack away and come up with a stand alone and netword servers run more independantly and easy to learn and use buy corperate server admin or the poor slept who the boss walked up to and stated your the new server admin.

Anyways I am wondering if it is possible to develop a server package or packages where the user / company do not have to call a specialist or a programmer in to fix it or set it up.
