LAck of stencils stop you from using Dia?? lets fix it!

This is some what art related, if there's a better forum for the thread lets move it.
I've used Dia and Kivio for basic diagraming at home and have used Visio at work for a number of applications. The Linux apps are missing functionality.

Dia and Kivio are missing stencils to make the programs worth while.
Dia & Kivio come with some basic stencils but I think a package including a few more would be outstanding for Ubuntu.

I know that office layout, room design (doors, windows, Kitchen cabinets) are needed. From my searhing around on the topic others think there needs to be more extensive circuit, network, and flowchart stencils

** multiple angle stencils are also desired due to the inability of Dia to rotate the stencils.

Would anyone what to help organize building the stencils and a Ubuntu package? What stencils would you want? (I want the room layout stuff)

Hi,

I also have to admit that Kivio is too 'light' in comparison with ... Visio. I still and only need Microsoft for this last application. I really need to have an add-on which includes computer hardware, such as, racks, router, switches, modems, KVM, PC, servers, Disks, ... 3D models are of course better.

The goal is to document a data center.

Regards,

Vincent

Being able to create custom stencils and just drag and drop our own created shapes into the custom stencils was what attracted me to use Visio in the first place. Let's hope this functionality would come to Kivio soon!!

My need for these stencils come and go. It's never a strong enough need to work on making stencil sets.
I'd donate to get it working. I guess you can pay fir the Kivio templates on the website

Visio is the last application I hold on to windows for... and lack of stencils in any Linux equivalent is the very reason why!

I have unsuccessfully tried to get Visio working through wine and crossover linux. (Although these attempts were both under Ubuntu 7.04 which has given me a lot of trouble.... I am about to go back to 6.10 which ran perfectly!!).

doesn't look like it, I've abandoned the search. If I knew how to code the stencils I'd make sets myself.....

Non anti-aliased images! Are we still in 1998?

Kivio and Dia both SUCK. I have to use a Windows VM for Visio 2003 and that SUCKS too. We need stencils for Dia and/or Kivio that actually look good, like the once that many, many vendors provide for Visio. We use Visio stencils from HP, Cisco, Astaro, and others to produce nice drawings of server cabinets, network diagrams, presentations, etc. where we want to show the actually hardware we have in the racks.

No way I'm paying theKompany for their crummy stencils.

Kivio does offer a software program for creating your own images.

The price is not unreasonable if it really allows you to "easily" create any stencil you want and it's powerful enough to create really nice, complex stencils.

My hesitation is lack of documentation on what you can (and cannot do) with it.

TurboCad for example has drawings submitted by users that shows the power and capabilities of TurboCad and I've purchased many upgrades of TurboCad (which I happen to love and use a lot).

Kivio needs to do something similar with the Stencil creator tool.

On another note....can someone tell me how the people that create Ubuntu can offer all this (Magnificent OS) for FREE ????
Do corporations pay for business licenses for Ubuntu?
