Hey, I saw lots of sigs refering to usp and finally got it working.
I'm quite disapointed by the result.
I'm a fanatic USlab-user, I modded it, ..
I really can't find out why people are so enthousiast about USP.
check out this screenshot : http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/1057/200608221238571280x1024scrotds0.png
( I don't mean to offend anyone :) I'm probably wrong so don't shoot me now ;) )
So why are you guys so enthousiast about USP, what makes it better then Slab?
Cheers

well...number one reason...it's better :D
mainly because it better looking and more customisable (and should be even more so in future versions) and it looks better....(look at the attached screenshot)
go into gconf-editor and under apps->usp there are quite a few options
name of menu
icon for it
colours
the plugins (panels) that are loaded and their order
etc, etc
well, i think it's better... :D

Agree completely! Nothing against Uslab, I just think USP is the better of the two.

LOL,
@ PingunZ, first off I am glad you got it working. Mind sharing what the problem was?
I do understand that there are lots of different people with different tastes and I guess yours is not for USP. Maybe it was all the hype before you started using/got it to work, who knows...
I do appreciate your comments and there are a ton of customizations in /apps/usp in case you are interested, and a lot more plugins will be rolled out in the future. In fact, you could tweak USP to look just like uslab (or close to it) if you want..
I do hope in the future if you want a feature for USP you can request it here and myself and the gang will try to oblige. Not to sure Novell will listen for uslab though...

Chanders I didnt fix anything, I'm just on edgy now :)
and as said in the title those are my first impressions.
I'm willing to give USP a go :)
what I need are :
- plugins, where to install them ?
- places where I can tweak, gconf, ..
Just anything to tweak usp :)
edit : is there a repo for edgy ?

gconf: /apps/usp
plugins: read the new release sticky: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1371849&postcount=3
folder: there is a ~/.usp folder too
And I may be wrong, but I think the repo is out of date (at least the Dapper one, anyway)

I like both slab and USP. But I couldn't find any way in slab to access my System/Administration and System/Preferences (other than the ones in the control panel). So I'm happily using USP.

I really like application searching. The way usp handles it is more handy than slab (why is it opening new window for it?)
Computer part is nice. Most wanted gui configuration tools can be accessed with it.
Favourite applications are cool, but I prefer placeing application launchers on panel, so I don't need to access menu to quickly launch an app.
