Hello
I'm switching from suse linux to ubuntu, cus in suse linux kde burned 300mb of my memory..
Now i'm wondering which ubuntu version is the best to install, i see you're gonna release 5.0 on 8 april, but is this gonna be stable..
i used ubuntu before but formated it, cus there was a problem loging in.. session lasted less then 10 secs...
Can you recommend which ubuntu would be the best for a computer that i willl use as a server and also as a workstation

regards and thanks

Well, so far there is only one official release and, as you said, in a few days Hoary will be official too.
I strongly recommend you to use Hoary even now that is in testing.
I use it as server and desktop and it's solid.

Get the newest version when it comes out. I use the pre-release now and its a stable as can be.

A few days is not long to wait.

You installed k3b, didn't you? This issue has been fixed in Hoary. The .ICEAuthority permissions are not rewritten by it.

Why don't you try RedHat Enterprise Linux?

*LOL*
I don't think most people here can throw money around like that ;)

If you decide to go away from Ubuntu, and think RedHat Enterprise may be your thing, go for centos. It's redhat enterprise linux, without the non-free software, and with no price tag.

Red Hat Enterprise is usually used by businesses who have the money, since it comes with support, and a few other things.
Since RHE is still open source, there are a few distro's based on it, CentOS, Whitebox Linux, Tao Linux.

cent os is pretty nice
well I was just given a pc today an old gateway 400mhz celleron with 128mb of ram, installing hoary on it now, well its installed but doing all the updates lol. Also ubuntu picked up my usb to ide adapter kickass drive case thing so now i have a 20gb hooked up to it for storage. So far things are going pretty swell.

Or perhaps SuSE? The DVD iso is still free to download.
