Most of the games being talkd about on here seem to be commercial like quake Ut doom etc... and i'm guessing you have to own a copy to run them?
Anyone know any good free games for linux?
I'm Playing freeciv.. and its boring... a decent stratagy game like warcraft or age of empires would be cool.

Well I don't know if its still around anymore or even in the repo server anymore but there was freecraft but Blizzard threw a huge hissy fit over it and pooof... So now we have Stratagus http://stratagus.sourceforge.net Which brings "Battle of Survival" I don't know if any of these are in the repos but building from source shouldn't be to hard. Just make sure read about stratagus game engine and the games you wana play.
Edit:
I don't know how you feel about old dos games but you could setup DosBox as for the games being free..?..thats in your hands. But abandonware can be your friend :-$
Edit:
One last edit and I stop :D
Look for ScummVM in Synaptic and Beneath a Steel Sky it's not a strategy game but it will keep you busy there is also Flight of the Amazon Queen but I havn't played that one.

At Ubuntu Game List (which someone gave you the link previously) the strategy games a split up in Freeware and commercial. We even split up strategy section into turn based and realtime.
