Saitek X45 Joystick/ Throttle and Flightgear

Can anybody point me in the right direction.
I have a Saitek X45 joystick/throttle setup and would like to use it for lFghtgear within Ubuntu.
Any help/suggestions would me much appreciated.

reviving an old thread but I also have a problem with my saitek x45 in ubuntu. It detects it but all the buttons are mapped rather oddly as in buttons are on the hat switches and the actual buttons don't press anything. quite weird. I guess no one has made a driver the saitek x45 on linux?

apparently something is broke in latest kernel?
