Does any fellow Ubuntu users have experience using Solaris 10 Operating Environment? it appears to use the Gnome DE, I am downloading the CD images now.
Also has anybody used the Sun Ultra 3 Mobile Workstations using 550 MHz or 650 MHz UltraSPARC IIi processor or 1.2 GHz UltraSPARC IIIi processor.
I am going to try Solaris 10 first and then seriously consider buying a Sun Ultra 3 Mobile Workstation for myself.
I just want to know if anybody has experience using Solaris or Sun hardware, is it a great overall system to use?

I am also looking for a ultralight notebook for my wife not the above Sun since it wieghs over 7lbs, that would be for me.
PS: This isn't really "Other Linux Talk" but I didn't know where to put this?

Ok I need some help here if anybody knows what to do...
I downloaded the first CD using the SDM, and it says downloaded and extracted but where is the zip file or iso image?

I figured it out, I went to the download manager log and found the address(location)file. burning the first iso now.

It takes some getting used to but the SDM is quite awesome.

I downloaded 2 isos and couldn't get either to work (I am a distro junkie, I know the drill, do NOT tell me to burn at 8X:))
After the boot to cd, hardware check, setup start, It was about to begin the install when the disk popped open and a message came up and told me "you do not have a solaris disk in the drive".
Very strange considering it had been reading the disk for the previous 5 minutes.
Any ideas?

I have decided to start a series of threads specifically for technical help for other Distros...the Distro is listed in the thread title. This is primarily for Ubuntu users who test or use other distros and feel most comfortable seeking help in our own community. In no way does this superceed the help you should also be getting from the perspective Distro., in fact I encourage you to be as active in their forums as you are here and post ideas, knowledge and solutions here to provide a reference point to share, reference links are encouraged.

Hmmm this thread might be a bit old but may I ask what happened to the Ultra 3 Mobile? They don't seem to sell any notebooks anymore?
On the other hand... how does the SPARC chip work? Even for last year, 500mhz - 1.2ghz seem to be a bit slow...

See eBay.
I would not buy one anyway unless I was a colector or something. Not worth it unless you can get one for real cheap. It was a big flop for Sun. They have basically canned all their desktop/laptop products as they were'nt really selling, hard to compete with the x86 products in that market segment.
Better off with a modern x86_64 cpu notebook.
