Hey there,
I have posted other threads on this topic but here it goes again.
I was wondering why my ubuntu lags so much and uses so much RAM memory
I have 508 MB and only 5MB free. Also my CPU% is often high causing programs to delay when opening and the whole thing is laggy.
If there is no fix i wanted some input on other linux distro's i could try out?
I do not like Mandrake so anything other than that i am willing to dual boot and look into.

It's weird that it's lagging, i'm surprised. Well you could try xubuntu or download xfce which is basically ubuntu with a less graphical and lighter weight interface. I have heard good things about the speed in Arch and you may wanna check into that.

well i have a few interfaces installed. Gnome, which i am using now, KDE XFCE and XGL/COMPIZ. I spent a while setting Ubuntu up.
I am downloading a few Bit torrents, but i have a friend downloading bit torrents as well only he is using windows. He actually multi tasks alot more then me and his CPU% usage runs at about 12% when i do this i run 100%
I never spent much time with XFCE but i suppose i could give it a try.
