Okay, I was updating my system a question came to mind. Is the update manager ever updated ever updated and if it is, how? The only way of updating the update manager is through the installation of a new Ubuntu release. But this is rather impractical, any thoughts?

I'm positive its updated. I know I've seen apt show up on the update list, and that's the backend to the Update manager. It's not like it would be hard to update either, file's would just get replaced while it was running. Then the next time it ran it would be the new version. This is how the kernel works after all ::shrugs::

Yeah, your right. the idea off an update manager updating itself seems like a bit of a paradox to me though. it's like in the IBM adds when one of the consultants joke about the server ordering itself.

It's only as paradoxical as the question of whether or not you can update a piece of software if it's running. The answer is yes- the version in RAM will be deprecated and when you restart the program, you'll have the new version installed.
