Hello all,

I'm kinda new to Ubuntu, i'm running on a AMD64 and I LOVE IT.
I wanted to get started with 3D modeling etc. but first i need to install library's and stuff. I'm using this site as a guide:

http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/3D-Modelling.html

but it's sorta old.

Now, I'm looking for those packages that support 64bit. i tried the ones from sourceforge; * Mesa Graphics Library v3.4.1: www.mesa3d.org/download.html
but i couldn't figure it out.... i tried through synaptic but it wanted to remove kde :(

Can anyone be a guide or supply a trustworthy one for me ? plz ?

regards,
Shomi

There are a couple of good programs for 3D modeling. The best of the them is blender.

To find Blender open Synaptic and search for 'Blender'. The greatest thing about Ubuntu is that it will install everything you need to get the program running.

Aye Blender is more than you need for modeling. YOu can also animate movies with it (as well as make video games). Lookie here at some tutorials: http://www.blender3d.org/cms/Using_Blender.80.0.html

"How" you make a movie is somewhat (though not terribly) complex. But there are tutorials about it, so check em out.

There's some other open source programs specifically for modeling only. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is called "Wings 3D" (I think). But Blender rocks. Highly recommended by many.
