My goal is to program a cross-platform (X11, MS windows) 3d-graphics engine for a game. I just can't decide which toolkit I should use. It should be fast, fullscreen and cross-platform. GLUT seems promising but is there any better? Or should I just use this?

Are you familiar with Crystal Space? http://www.crystalspace3d.org/ It is not very speed oriented but should be ok. It is full featured, cross platform and thoroughly tested.

I know you are considering making a 3D-Engine, but have you looked at http://www.ogre3d.org/ ?
