yesterday I've downloaded a client for a free online RPG game named knight-online
the BIG problem is it's just for windows
the do not have a client not servers for linux.
and b/z of this I spent to many hours on Bills OS.
I can not stop playing it.
I'm writing thouse words only b/z the servers down for weekly Maintenance.
I have to warn you - this game is addictive
not not look for it !
it's very similar to world of worcraft and it's completly free !
I playing before a linux online game named eternal lords and some other online rpg game I can't remmember it's name - and this game beats them by a long time.
help ! I'm addicted !
I must stop playing this game !

I didnt like really much the planeshift engine, and also eternal lands... I wasnt too happy.
Morrowind is really nice, but unfortunately it's not online. It runned well under linux.
You might try cedega, or maybe cvscedega, to install the knight online game ?

Last I saw, Planeshift was still so young that it wasn't much fun to play just yet. I'm not sure if this has changed in the last 6 months or not.

Indeed, morrowing with Loki. Loki installers are really impressive piece of work !
The only problem I found is with gta san andreas with the loki. Didnt have time yet and courage to look at it...

AI, I'm well aware of Loki's installer. It does not work. I mean it does install the game, which then does not work in wine.
Is there somebody who can produce definitive evidence that Morrowind does indeed work in wine?

Not easy to play with it once installed
The cedega says no way.
Wine gives better results. It needs mozilla active X installed.
hmm

Hum the screenshots really look nice... too bad there is no linux-native version of the client, that's really a show-stopper for me. Any idea where I could sent an email to request for one?
Is this game open-source? If it is, we might try to gather other coders around this and modify the client to run on linux ourselves...
Cheers

I think that gaming wiht Linux is kind of without any hopes
I am always loosing lot of time trying to find out the way how to configure to make it. Then, we can play, but after one hour
I think that really enjoying gamign with linux is hopeless
Loosing hours for somethg thta would take 2min in windoze.
I'll try again today with wine

Finally we know with what we can play knight online :
Using CrossOver Office
The way CrossOver Office lets you install programs is a bit different than I'm used to. Here, you select the product you wish to install and CrossOver Office either downloads the install files, takes them from cd, or asks you where they are (if the former two fail). On the other hand, I'm used to selecting the install files I want, and continuing from there. This may not sound very different, but there is one key difference, which is why (I believe) CodeWeavers chose to do it this way: With a list of products to install, the regular user knows what products will work and what he/she can install. The other way, users may install unsupported software, and encounter errors. CrossOver Office does, of course, allow advanced users to install unsupported software, but the important part is that they have made the process easy to use without sacrificing usability.
I installed a few simple applications, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, Internet Explorer, and Windows Media Player, which all downloaded and installed without problems. After that, I decided to move onwards to some larger programs. I installed Office XP, Counter-Strike, and Knight Online. Both Counter-Strike and Knight Online are unsupported programs, but they both worked. Office XP worked too, but that is only to be expected; after all, Microsoft Office is CrossOver Office's flagship.

I managed to install Knight Online !! ;)
you have to touch a bit everywhere to make it.
Now, when I run the game, I get this errror message
****, I thought I could finally play but not yet
MaximB
August 12th, 2006, 05:51 AM
well patrick....the deffrence is
that not everything that free is an open source
like you can see of this threads games
they are all great and free
but they are not an open source
and do not play under linux.
if they were an open source - you could create a client for linux and play.
did you get it ?
inform us with your prograss making knight-online play under linux.
and if you manage that - give as a detailed instructions
thanx ahead !

cedegaCVS = minus the proprietary bits and cd copy protection code, easy setup, no voting for which games cedega should support non-free stuff which some of tha games needed to work etc etc etc.
patrick295767

cvsCedega is free, but this means you'll need to spend some time in playing around with files, dll, cd protections ... before playing.
If you have some time, it's fine.
If you wanna play effortless, you need to pay to get cedega, the roll's royce for Gaming !:D

I know of a great list of both free and non-free MMORPGs, since I've been looking ALOT for something that suits me (too bad that game don't exist :D ). I'll dig it up in a second.
EDIT: I present to you, the biggest and best games-list: http://www.onrpg.com/boards/free-mmorpg/907-biggest-best-games-list/
On that forum there is also a discussion-section for MMORPGs, a forum to request MMORPGs (for example those that works with Linux) and much, much more. (I'm the annoying salesman today)
EDIT2: By the way, what's with the "windoze"-thing? Why "-doze"?

that's a cool game but there isn't much to do there.
you choose a mission , wait 7-11 hours make money and exp ... and buy stuff
but you don't actually play/fight
I don't like to much web based games.
the graphic is almost always poor.
