Thought this would be ineresting...What do we enjoy when we're not sitting in front of a glowing screen pounding keys.

I like model railroading (N-Scale, which is half the size of HO), camping, fishing on our beautiful lake (lots of bass fishing), and most recently I've taken up paintball with a bunch of guys from work. Being in the Mohave desert, there are different places the guys go to every weekend to play(but being 120 degrees every day lately, they go out real early, and are done before 9AM)..

So,let's hear some other interests....

You mean there is life outside of the PC?
Honestly I have been so computer addicted since 95 that I havent even watched television since then. I guess you could say drinking beer is a hobby, but I do that while I play with the computer.

I do have a life outside the PC as I have a job and family.. but any free time is eaten up by the computer.

Yeah I know it sounds pathetic, but its true.

I like to read, mostly non-fiction by journalists and such and science fiction novels.

I like to play frisbee during the summer.

I like to go to bars, the movies, and restaurants with chums.

I like to ride and work on my motorcycle. I know a few other bikers, but I haven't organized any group rides yet. If you're an Ottawa biker, PM me!

I like to listen to music and drink beer. I used to drink whiskey, but I swore it off after a hellish episode that in retrospect was actually salmonella.

I am a "journalista" for (and one of the founders of) Sequential Tart, a webzine by women who like comics and pop culture. Yes, ladies, and germs, chix dig comics.

Oh, hell with it -- I went to SDCC last week, and was even in costume on Saturday as Typhoid Mary. (From the DareDevil comic, not the *awful* Electra movie.)

Like so many others here I play the guitar. I also play the bass pretty well and am toying around with the mandolin. I like to study languages (human ones...I speak English fairly well and am a student of Arabic, Spanish, and French).

Oh, pretty cool one for all the guitar players out there...I built my own guitar amp a few years ago! I used to buy old tube amps off of eBay, fix them, and then resell them. After toying with that a while I decided I wanted the perfect tube amp, couldn't find it so I built it.

I can hurl tennis rackets at small moving objects with deadly accuracy. I once read

Canoeing and cayakking, swimming, spending time at the beach (in a boat, walking, swimming, sunbathing or even being indoors, I love every minute of it).

I also like to play volleyball, as well as attend volleyball matches of our national team.

I play no music, I rarely drink beer. I guess that makes me the odd one out. To compensate, I like to sing, even though I am far too shy to perform for others, but people have said my voice is nice. I have occassionally performed a sone in a choir ;)
I do drink wine and sometimes 'krieken'beer (Cherry flavoured beer)

I like to make themes for mobile phones, mostly Sony Ericsson models, although I haven't sat myself down to do one in quite a while.

I like to cook, but since I've been living alone again I've found myself slacking in that department. I usually eat at work now and only cook when I have guests, but when I do cook I do it with all my heart.

I love cycling, I love reading. My preferences are fantasy, sci-fi and historical (non)fiction.

I have to admit, my computer IS my hobby...I don't like sports much and socialising really isn't me...I like to keep my friends on the internet.

So, I am nearly always at home, apart from going shopping or work, which is a 220km a day driving job with a bread van.

When I do decide to spend some spare time away from the computer, I take the car out somewhere and go for a drive, or go to geek friends introducing them to linux and it's wonderful ways.

I am well and truly addicted to my computers.

In the winter I enjoy snowboarding. I actually bought a new board about three years ago, but I've only been able to use it twice. I'm hoping to remedy that this coming winter.

In the summer I play alot of Ultimate Frisbee. We usually start at around 9:30pm, and have gone on till 2:00am before. There's also drunken frisbee, which although it doesn't last as long, is quite fun.

My year-round hobbies are mostly reading, music, and video games.

I read, read, read, read.

For long stretches, I read a book a day: History, current events, highbrow literature of all eras, true crime, DYI texts, some genre junk, literary mysteries, you name it...except for romance, fantasy or SciFi.

I've been reading the Scandinavian mystery writers recently. Eh. Also knocked out a couple of Alan Furst books, which are OK.

When I'm not doing this, I do music.

My hobbies have been video games, college and darts at the pub.

I got rid of the video games. I still have the college and darts.
I recently have taken to typing in this forum as a hobby.

One of my hobbies that is going to become a wast is my DVD collection. The reason I say that this is going to be a wast is there is going to be a new technology that makes all my DVDs useless. I will give you the examples of records, Atraks, tapes. It really irritates me to hear how the movie industry is getting cheated and realize the only places my DVDs may end up in is a museum or a landfill. Two of the DVD series I am interested in lately is "Dead Like Me" and "Farscape".

I am trying to add hobbies that gets me out more. One that I have added is racket ball.
I want a wii but I spend too much time on video games if they are around.

I play the violin as well!
Aside from my computer related hobbies and the fore mentioned violin, I sing, rock climb(anything high adventure as well), work on cars/build race cars, read, write, work with wood. Anything with my hands. If I can work hard, get dirty, and be proud of the finished product then I enjoy doing it. Cooking is a good time too.

I'm so busy with computers though I don't find much time for anything else. If I'm not working with them at work I'm at home studying new material/applications/hardware needed for work.

I'm a Spurs fan (Tottenham Hotspur), so that takes up a lot of my time.

I also like to watch movies (Lynch, Coen etc) and I'm a big fan of the legendary american punk band Bad Religion.

Last summer I even tried fishing for the first time in .. 15 years, and it was quite fun. I'll do it again next summer :)

Apart from that I like to spend time with my girlfriend and our two daughters.

I like car audio. I just wish I had more time to dedicate to it.

I have an entry-level alpine deck and a Phoenix Gold OctaneR804 amplifier. The front speakers are some Vifa home audio drivers with discontinued Vifa car tweeters, mounted coaxially with thick strapping material, hidden in the doors.

The subwoofer is an older Kicker C10c-4 in a tapered quarter-wave box. It's out of commission right now, I have to replace the box terminal, I burned it out a couple weeks ago.

Pic of inside of box:

http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/images/lotsofglue.jpg

This isn't limited to the car. My PC sub rattles the ductwork in my house. It's a pair of $13 5" drivers powered with a 70w home theater plate amplifier. The box is what makes it come alive, it's 1.7cf tuned to 35hz. My wife is scared of what I plan for the home theater.

I also brew my own beer and mead.

How about y'all?

I took up cooking properly after i finished university, gained a real appreciation for the food i couldn't afford to eat when i was there.

I'm into mountain bikes, done most of the trails here in england, looking to go vancouver sometime. I'm also into the rowing.

Very nice. How's sales? Did you self-publish? I like to write as well. I had a novel represented by an agent without success, and I didn't have the money to continue the agent's contract. I completed a second novel which is actually better than the first, but getting an agent is more than I can swing. I'm working on a screenplay right now, based on the lead character from my novels.

I'm working on a screenplay right now, based on the lead character from my novels.I self-published using Lulu.com. I researched the alternatives and was pleased with the deal they offer for basic marketing and so on. A huge bonus for me is that I retain ALL rights to the book, so if a publisher pursues me, I'm free to consider other methods of publication as well.

The book was just published earlier in April so sales are just getting started. Yesterday was the first day I found the book on Amazon, so that was a huge thrill.

Best wishes for your screenplay and novel.

Mine happens to be model rocketry over here which is fun. You ge to actually fly the rockets with either reusable or non reusable engines depending on which motor you buy that can use the reusable engines in them. I have even seen one where you can take live video from the rocket itself and download it to the computer. :)
