Im not sure if the first 2 even run on linux but heres how I installed Q4 (I dont have it installed now though) Your need your 3D video drivers installed first off though.
1st:download this "quake4-linux-1.2.1.x86.run" to you home folder, right click it and make it executable. Then double click-it and install it in a "games" folder or whatever you wanna call it (I named mine "LocalApps" created in my home folder).
get it here if you want:
http://www.3dgamers.com/games/quake4/downloads/
2nd:Pop in your Q4 DVD (mine is DVD, you might have the CDs). open up to Setup>Data>q4base select all and copy them into your new Quake4 folder the liunx patch created for you. Make sure you cancel the replacement of the files it wants to (keep the newer ones).
3rd:double click the "quake4.sh" and play away. Im guessing you know how to make a shortcut to your desktop so I wont get into that.
Hope I helped you, someone helped me the sameway when I first got linux and thats the game I wanted to install but had no clue on how to do it. Peace
Let me know if it worked

Also, you may find Automatix (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=177646) very helpful, It will sort out your video drivers for you if you have nVidia hardware, as well as giving you 46 (I think) other options for installing softwares that are very popular. Automatix is fast, reliable & incredibly well supported. Great for new & old hands alike!
There is a lot of gaming info' available through the links that you will find here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=85573), too...
Hopefully that will get you going?
Have fun & welcome to the Ubuntu community! :KS
