I downloaded the LiveCD ISO and burned it to a CD using Disk Utility. However, despite reading posts on the forums I'm still not exactly sure what to do to get the LiveCD to boot so that I can run Ubuntu without having to install it yet just to try it out. Do I need to do something with BootCamp or do I just hold 'C'when starting the computer? Because holding C has done nothing for me. Sorry if this is a stupid post, I just can't seem to find a clear explanation on any thread. By the way, I also tried holding option, but only the Mac HD shows up. Did I burn the iso wrong with Disk Utility? I downloaded the x86 by the way.

Did you burn the CD as an .iso image?

I went to Disk Utility on Mac OS X, dragged the LiveCD .iso I downloaded from the site into the left hand column of Disk Utility, selected the .iso file, hit burn and then put in a CD-R. When I put the CD-R in and it shows up on my desktop it is named 'Ubuntu 6.06 i386'. Is there something different I need to do because those were the instructions on the web site for burning the iso to a CD using Mac OS X.

Sounds like it's OK. However, did you do a check sum on the download? From what I glean from your original post, it still sounds like a corrupted file. If the checksum is OK, perhaps burning at 4X or so (if you burned at a higher rate) might be an option. If you did a low speed burn, then I'm out of ideas atm.
