DialUp & root access

Hi. I just downloaded Ubuntu (Warty 4.10 final) for PowerPC and installed it on my iBook G3 500 MHz, the install went ok, but now I have one problem and one annoying situation to deal with. The problem is that each time I try to connect to the internet (using the modemlights applet in gnome) it fails. It shows like it´s connecting but after certain time it just drops the connection (my ibook can connect to the web from YellowDog Linux, MacOS 9 and OSX, and my ibook have a hardware-driven internal modem).
The annoying situation is that I enabled the root account but I can´t login as root though the GUI (gdm bounces me back to the username field).

For your GDM problem it's in the preferences for GDM an option in there to stop you logging in as root just enable that.
