Find your wine "windows" directory (on my Gentoo box, it's /home/user/c/)...using mine as an example, I do like such:

$ cd ~/c/Program Files
$ wine <name_of_prog>

Wine does NOT always make icons for the progs.

Not in my case.

None of the programs I've installed have made desktop icons, even ones I know that should. I can't even find the icons to add these to my alacart menus.

Usually doesn't have icons on its own. I usually go do a Google Image Search for an appropriate icon if needed, save it, and point to it. :)

/home/user/.wine/drive_c/

and then you go to the directory of the program then wine progname.exe
