Another way to install LimeWire is to convert the LimeWire rpm via alien:
sudo alien LimeWireLinux.rpm
Then install the created /.deb file
sudo dpkg -i linuxwirelinux.deb
The advantage of doing it this way is that your icons are automatically created.

Limewire is pretty much alive in Linux, and its the fastest P2P around behind Bittorrent.

Request will be DEFERRED until after Hoary's release.

If I forget, kick me after Hoary's out...

Why does Limewire hang at the screen, "Loading HTML Engine?"

I installed by converting the .rpm to a .deb file. (I know about the other instructions, but this way seemed easier)

same happens to me, except it hangs at "loading messages"

it just started doing this today, it was previously working...

just reinstalled, still the same..

edit: oops, didnt realize this thread was a couple weeks old..

And why did you guys use an .RPM when there are .TGZ files available? It's like your asking for it not to work

What kind of license is limewire under? Am I _ALLOWED_ to repackage it?

Getting Started as a LimeWire Developer
The first step is to get a copy of the LimeWire source code. The source can be downloaded in a single archive, but it is recommended that you check out the code from CVS. Before you start hacking, you should build and run the local copy of the code.
Inspired by LimeWire's owner, Mark Gorton, the LimeWire project is a collaborative open source effort involving programmers and researchers from all over the world.

There used to be and old limewire debian package, so maybe you can [not the PRO version though..]. Don't take my word for it though.

Just so that others know too. In my case it just seemed like it was hanging because the dialog box requesting me to continue with the installation was hidden behind all the other windows on my deskop. Just minimize everything and you will see it it 'hangin' behind your other windows ;-)

the free version- GPL.

Am I _ALLOWED_ to repackage it?

Has that stopped you in the past?

I know this thread's two years old, but just in case anyone's still interested, they've got DEBs now. :)
