just found a clue on the offical epic unreal engine 3 website which could hold the key to the question we've all been asking, is UT2007 going to support linux?
well look here under networking

and i quote
# Supports network play between different platforms (i.e. dedicated PC serving console clients; Windows, MacOS and Linux clients playing together.)
That is all

Thats good news to hear! I just hope it will run smoothly on my 2.2 Ghz AMD64, with a gig RAM and an ATI X800/850...
For now, I think I'm gonna get UT2004, since it works perfectly under Linux :D

The graphisms are looking amazing !!
I hope we won't need a super high-tech PC and our hardware will be able to follow.

I'm really annoyed as my AMD althlon xp 3000+ with 768 Mb Ram and GeForce 4 FX ux won't even handle oblivion on lowest :( So looks like i'll have to scrape some money together :(

Just need to up your memory (which is cheap at the moment) and get a better graphics card! Btw, the Athlon 3000+ will happily overclock to 3200+. Mine's been overclocked for about 2 years now.

Im building one just for this game. Money is no object. It will take away from my PS3 fund though. :(

That link doesn't really say much - it just says that clients using the Unreal Engine will be able to cross-communicate.
Nowhere does it state that UT2007 will actually HAVE a Linux client...

Epic's use of the Loki Installer I find very cool. They did it 2003, they did it in 2004, why wouldnt they do it in 2007. =)

For sure the Loki Loaders have helped me out with a number of game installs. Now, if we only knew if Enemy Territory: QuakeWars is going to have a linux client available. I'd be set for the next year of gaming.

why would epic break a trend? and why would they advertise this feature if they werent intending to use it?

I think one of the best things they could do would be to provide a linux version at launch. On the same cd. I have no problem buying games from companies who support linux.
This is wild: "64-bit version to be available with better textures"
I wonder the difference? Id do a 64-bit install just to run the game. :)

Yeah theres a 64bit enhanced version of UT2004 with better textures etc but i think its only for windows however there is a 64bit patch for linux too but im not to sure it it also has the better textures
I have Ut2004 installed under 64bit and it plays like a dream

well they should realease a linux version to continue being able to compete with the competition as FPS is if u looked into it the most ported over type of game to linux for a reason they are great fun and a stress reliever :P

I have noticed that GeForce 6 cards are getting cheaper, especially AGP variants. I purchased my PNY Verto GeForce 6200 (256 MB, APG 8x) for less than $90 and it handles UT2k4 maxed-out @ 1280x1024 with very little lag, as well as Doom 3 and Quake 4 on medium settings. If you can find of those cards, by all means pick it up. It's a good card for the money. NewEgg doesn't carry the PNY card I purchased, (but I'm willing to part with it for cheap ), so here's a few budget cards that you may want to consider:
BIOSTAR V6602SS21 Geforce 6600 (PCI-E) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814141018)
XFX PVT44AYAL3 Geforce 6200 (AGP) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150125)
I myself just upgraded to an XFX Geforce 6800XT (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150155) for a little under $190. Other than building a newer socket 939 or socket AM2 system, this card should hold me off for another year or two. It looks like I might be able play UT2k7 with this card, the only bottleneck is my processor (2.2 GHz, AMD Athlon 64).

I know I am bringing this back from the grave but just watched an interview with Jeff Morris and at the end he says it will be on "Windows PC and Playstation 3"
No mention of Mac or Linux :(

I've posted this 9th-10-06, it is a reply from Ryan C Gordon (icculus), the programmer responsible for much of the linux work done on the Unreal's including UT2k3 & UT2k4:
> The reason I am contacting you, (& I'm sure you have better things to do
> than waste time on this quick question), is do you know, or know how I
> can find out whether Epic is going to release UT2k7 with OpenGL support?
As there is likely to be a Mac and Linux version, I'd say the OpenGL
support will likely be there, too. :)
--ryan.
Now, Ryan is probably labouring under a non-disclosure agreement. So, I would think that the words probably & likely combined with his smiley at the end look very promising indeed.
Personally I doubt that linux support will be there immediately though.
