I hope someone can help as this has been driving me crazy. I have added a usb hard disk to my server and have set it up through Webmin and everything seams to be working except 2 key aspects:
1) all the file names have been changed (copyed the info from an old PC). Now all the files only have half their original names and a ~ symbol and some numbers. Is there a way to get the originals back? (I cheacked the files when I originaly copyed them, using a live linux cd, and they looked fine, they have only changed since mounting the drive on this box)
2) I can't seem to give myself permision to write to the whole drive. It has a variety of foldes and files in those folders non of which I can seem to keep write access to. I can go into webmin filemanager and change the permisions to 0777 but everytime I go back in to check them they have changed back. Please tell me I don't have to change the permissions for each individual file?!
So even if I can't get the original filenames back (part1) I can't re name them to new / old ones anyway (part 2)!
Very frustrating! ](*,) - any help would be great.
PS: in case you didn't guess this is the 1st time I have tried to do aything like this!
