i have been running breezy servers for the last three months and after the initial set up, they are easily the most stable servers i have ever worked with.

should i upgrade to dapper server anyway, or is it best to leave a good thing alone?

i probably won't even notice the difference, but i'm also not looking for more work.

:-k

No reason to do it right now, unless you have the time. Breezy will be supported for another year, I think.

If you have time on your hands to get around possible quirks with upgrading to dapper would be a good idea, since you won't have to upgrade for five years.

But no reason to rush the upgrade, however summers are usually a good time to do these things (where I work, anyways)

well i do have time on my hands and summer is indeed a good time to do it.

i am searching around for information about other people's experiences upgrading, if anyone knows of any off the top of their head, a link would be greatly appreciated.

i am extremely happy with ubuntu breezy server, i am really just wondering if it is worth the upgrade.

dapper can't be that much different can it?

Like was mentioned before...you will have to upgrade eventually. Breezy is only supported for another year. Dapper for 5 years. So might as well upgrade when you have some time on your hands.

I'm sure you'll find plenty of resources on this forum on how to upgrade. The simplest is to change your sources.list from breezy to dapper and then run apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade...

Or just back up your stuff and do a fresh install. That might cause less issues.

In my case, it was only a server installation, so I could recreate everything using script files itself.

However, upgrading my breezy desktop to dapper turned out to be not such a good idea.

I mean, with the server the number of packages is relatively less than a desktop (what with all the X packages, Gnome and stuff).

So a server upgrade should relatively be stable and easy and not a problem, but don't take my word for it :)

i was thinking the same thing. i am confident enough to go ahead and back up everything and give it a try, so here goes nothing! (in a few months from now :p )
