Just a nudge for your gamers needing to run windows games, new wine version today.
Noted Changes:
* Still more work on Direct3D shaders.
* Now using the Gecko engine directly for MSHTML.
* Better support for apps switching to full screen mode.
* Support for multiple joysticks.

If it'll run Silent Hill 2 or Dark Age of Camelot, I'm all for it.

is it in their repositories yet? cause synaptic is showing there are no new upgrades for wine yet.

Well, their AppDB now says that SH2 needs support for YV12 (whatever that means, I don't code in graphics) and its been upgraded to Bronze status. Still nothing new on DAoC though.
I wonder if the last listing for the SH2 issues has been upgraded with the release of 0.9.17, or if that bug still hasn't been closed.

I can't wait for Guild Wars support via Wine.
I so look forward to giving Cedega the flick!

Thanks for the heads up. I wish they would add support for CIV4, so I could ditch cedega.

Hear hear! I still have to boot into W*@#&#$*s to play GW. It's the only thing that keeps me from altogether removing it.
Many thanks to the Wine developers anyway! You people are doing a great job! :-D

There's a detailed changelog here (http://source.winehq.org/git/?p=wine.git;a=summary), and the package should hit the repositories no later than a day or two from now, at least if past releases are anything to go by.

I do not want to. I know of it and I know that GW runs in it (I read Handy's posts). I just don't like their buisness model. If it were a one-time payment with upgrades etc, I'd consider it. Now it is extortionware and I do not want to support that.

I agree with you, about the extortionware.
I just can't stand using windoze for anything anymore, so I begrudgingly (these days) pay the ransom to transgaming until Wine comes to my rescue!

Does anyone know if it is possible to compile cedega and get civ4 running, or does it require stuff that is not available except through cedega? I have a win partition for games so don't really want to give cedega any money (especially considering their poor relations with wine who really deserve some of my hard-earned). I might subscribe though if I could get civ working and then deleted my win partition in a fit of pique the next time it did something to **** me off...

All I can say that CIV4 works okay with newest cedega. You may subscribe for one month, and get the current version. When subscribe period ends, you can still use your version as long as you want and CIV4 will work.

Minimum initial sub' is 3 months = 3 x $5 US. + $0.50 processing fee!

Yep, it's updatable. Haven't tested it yet, tho
I'd never use Cedega. Having everything running on Wine and then install a new app only to play game x? No, thanks. I like keeping it unified.

Well, CIV4 is *really* good
But like I said before, if I could run it on Wine, no need for cedega.

I get this error (in synaptic)
http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/dists/dapper/main/binary-amd64/Packages.gz: 404 Not Found
Is the 64-bit binary not up yet? I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 AMD64, so I need the 64bit version.

IIRC, there was a Linux client for Civ3. Maybe there's one for Civ4 as well? [-o<

Wine 0.9.17 has indeed hit the repos. Also, I have just finished compiling 0.9.17 with the WoW patch. You can find it on the updated Wine wiki (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wine).

@slugkilla: There is a linux installer for Morrowind at http://liflg.org/.
About Guild Wars: in wine 0.9.17 I see a login screen again (more or less), but it hangs. Oh, and I get a weird error when starting up GW. Something about the driver.
[Edit]: nice screenshot attached of GW in 0917.

lol, now that we got the login screen working, maybe the wine devs can work on getting 3d rendering working... haha

I don't believe there is a 64bit Wine! All the windoze games are 32bit.
