Hi all!
I've been assigned the task to install a CMS as an intranet for my (small) software company.
A CMS would be just what we'd need, but I'm not too sure on which one to choose: so far, I have tried two of them (Plone and eGroupware), and I'm curious what your experience with CMSs is. Any favorite? Any I should really avoid?
Let me know...

I guess it really depends on what you want to do. Personally I have never found a CMS that I really like. Usualy after I install one I start writing down a list of stuff that I need to change, and my list usualy gets so long that the time it would take me to modify everything I could just write my own.. so thats what I do. None of my own stuff is as complex as nearly any CMS out there, but its small, compact, and does exactly what I need it to do for that particular site. php and includes go along way.

I've heard alot of good things about Etomite (http://www.etomite.org/).
I've had a play with it and found pretty straight forward to install, but my PHP is not amazingly good so i never bothered to try and modify it

This link might come in handy when searching for a good CMS:

But, like RShadow said, making your own CMS is always best... it's like cooking :p

Yep, I would go with Drupal too. Awesome developer base, good community support (forums+IRCs) .. kind of like ubuntu itself :)

I use Joomla on a regular 6 sites, and our company intranet portal uses Joomla. www.opensourcecms.com runs mambo, which joomla is a fork off of. The next release of Joomla will have a totally different code base from the current mambo, basically seperating the two projects.
I also like drupal (having played with it since 4.3 maybe), but the chances I did have with it looked good. The onion (www.theonion.com) is a high traffic site that uses Drupal.
There are MANY joomla sites, just ask and you'll get a long list ;)

Other than minor differences as far as add ons and tweaks and such are there any MAJOR differences in drupal and joomla as far as speed and ability to handle large traffic?

From my ventures with those 2 I always found joomla the slowest cms. Drupal was faster but u never know maybe I had some bad settings but out of the box i found joomla sluggish compared to drupal or e107 etc....

Used phpnuke some years ago, then switched to Drupal. Already using it for about 1 year and no problems yet !
Now at drupal 5.0 ! www.gobien.be if you want to see, its in dutch and does not have much content yet. (mostly hidden)

I love Drupal (www.drupal.org). Version 5 was recently released and it's great.

I second that. Drupal is great! Easy to install, configure and customize. You can check out my site at www.breezy.ca
