network connection problem

I am using linux mint 14 and have just installed kubuntu-desktop on it. I connect to the internet via modem. but in kubuntu, i'm not able to connect to the internet as no devices is showing in the network widget. I'm using a third party script SAKIS3G to connect to internet. How to enable connections from the network management widget.
earlier i used ubuntu 12.04 and had kubuntu on it. it detected the modem and connected as usual.

Ok, i searched and found that the modemmanager software had been uninstalled while installing kubuntu and thus not able to detect the modem.
