Hey guys, I'm building a Ubuntu minecraft server out of an old computer. The computer's NIC and onboard NIC are both fried, I know this isn't the best qualities in a potential server, but this is for testing and learning purposes only so I can't complain. Anyways, will a standard wireless usb adapter work on Ubuntu Server (newest version... 10.1?) Any configuring necessary?

Thanks

There is no "standard" USB wireless adapter - they all have different chipsets inside, from different manufacturers. Some are better supported in Ubuntu than others.

You can get a cheap mini-USB dongle for about $5 USD on eBay with a Realtek 8192CU chipset. If you don't mind downloading, building, and installing the latest driver from Realtek, it works quite well for a cheap wireless card in Ubuntu. I have a couple of them.

I recommend Ubuntu 12.04 LTS which is the latest LTS version. Don't use 10.04 as it won't be supported much longer.
