Chord Chart Software To Create Charts Simlar to Real Book

Hi Folks!

I hope I put this in the right forum, if not feel free to move it.

I'm trying to find software that will let me create basic chord charts similar to what you would find in the "Real Book" books.

I'm not looking for a complicated musical score software like MuseScore or NtEd

I just want to do the basic stuff like on a staff write in key signature, time signature, Chord Names (E13 for example) rather than spelling them out not for note

Add song segments e.g. [A], [B] [C], etc;
And a melody line if I want. :guitar:

Is there such a package for Ubuntu?

MuseScore is the right tool for the job and it's pretty easy to use. Check this tutorial http://musescore.org/en/node/11723

On a related note, there are a lot of leadsheets on http://wikifonia.org and http://musescore.com and you can download them in a format compatible with MuseScore (being MSCZ or MusicXML)

Muse score can do that for you. You can add chord symbols over measures, add symbols and letters for different sections, repeats, etc. There are also font options. did you already try it and think it's too complicated?

you could also give tux guitar a try, but really muse score is the most flexible.

lasconic, Thank You for the link. after seeing the AddStaff and SlashDot plugin's I think it can work. I am not sure how to add the plugin's to Ubuntu.

For some Lead Sheets I want to do, I want to just show the chords with no melody, but show the beats for chord strokes (dotted quarter note, 16th note pattern, etc.) Can I do that in MuseScore. I'm guessing I might have to use some percussion text? I looked that the drums dropdown but it was blank.

I saw you answered someone in the forum on MuseScore for Windows Vista. Can you advise me here, or would you like me to post in the MuseScore forum. your answer will most likely help others as well... Yeah, I'm a dumbass with technical things for Ubuntu.

In MuseScore you can notate the pattern manually or via the plugin.
