I have some students who were interested in learning to make visualizations of geospatial datasets, so I put together a tutorial (http://peak5390.wordpress.com/2012/12/08/mapping-global-earthquake-activity-a-matplotlib-basemap-tutorial/) using the matplotlib basemap library. The tutorial walks the reader through the creation of a visualization of recent earthquakes on a global scale:

Any python programmers want to check it out (http://peak5390.wordpress.com/2012/12/08/mapping-global-earthquake-activity-a-matplotlib-basemap-tutorial/), and share any feedback? I would appreciate anyone who is new to basemap testing the tutorial, and anyone who is experienced in using basemap giving it a more critical look.
