View Full Version : Good App for Making PSX ISO Files?

I'd like to back up a couple of my favorite Playstation games now that I've discovered the joy that is ePSXe (it runs them VERY WELL but not perfectly from the discs). But the 'bad block' protection used on the discs seems to brilliantly destroy my hopes with all the burning apps I've got except K3B which I can't install because of missing dependancies (I had it in Breezy and I've got all my repositories in order so I don't know why this is the case). But anyway, I have no guarantee that it would do the job either.

Gnomebaker is fooled by the protection. Gcombust dosen't even see the disc.

What other applications should I try to make some ISO's of my games? I only want to play these on my own private system. I don't intend to distribute them in any way.

Oh lord. Nevermind. Close this thread please. I just noticed that the only other post about this landed itself in the jail. Meant no harm. Sorry sorry. Just ignore this. Guess I'll figure it out on my own.

It Legal if you own the actual game.

yeah, you can make a backup copy for yourself, and use it in place of the original. it's not illegal. as for copying ps cds, I've always used the default system copy program, umm, Brasero. never had any problems with that, but you might want to try Acetone ISO, if Brasero doesn't work for you.

acetone2 should do the job for you. I remember seeing this option in the program. you can get it from getdeb.net

http://www.getdeb.net/app/AcetoneISO

Have fun with it. It also does tons of other useful things with discs and disc images.

Yeah, Brasero works fine for making PSX images, you just have to select ".toc image (cdrdao)" from the drop down box. You'll end up with a .toc and .toc.bin file instead of a single .iso file, but it works fine in ePSXe. I'm sure there's apps that do it better but if it's just for personal use I don't think it matters.

Backing up PSX games that you own is perfectly legal, just like music CDs and DVDs and whatnot.

its actually not, if you read the instruction manual that comes with ANY video game, it says you do not need/not allowed to create any 'backup or archival' copies.

but then again, as long as your not seeding it on bittorent, no one will care.

no, it doesn't. perhaps your game collection consists entirely of Nintendo titles? I've checked a few ps games, and haven't found anything like that in the manuals.

It depends on the game, but most of them do not allow you to make back up copies. Playstation games do not have the license agreement in their instruction booklets, which i thought they did, but im sure a licence agreement SOMEWHERE tells you that you cannot make or restricts you on how many backup copies you can make. but some of them do have this:

while pc games are also dependent on the game. Doom 3 allows you to make one backup copy, while prey says this:

and also, please do your research before you decide to insult me. Thanks =)

yeah, I did. it was you who stated that every game comes with restrictions on making backup copies. that's obviously untrue, and I've yet to find a game with such restrictions in my collection. some companies do place such limits in license agreements, so I've heard, but even the validity of such agreements is disputed. individual court cases vary, but in some countries it is stated by law that license agreements are invalid, if not available for review upon purchase of the product.

justo be clear, you can't backup some games that have subchannels. one of them is Final Fantasy 9 PAL. You'll need clonecd (Windows only) for that.

I've used ISObuster for my FFVII.

And IMHO, that blurb in the bottom right corner just means you can't break copyright law as protected, which doesn't apply to personal backups via DMCA.
