nobody would know for sure right as of now, but there's hope, they did put both doom3 and quake4 out for linux, and enemy territory is based off those, and can run in opengl.

i definately hope so.

It's very likely.

1. Developers already confirmed there will be dedicated linux server.
2. All ID Software games work with linux.
3. ALl Splash Damage games work with linux (the developer; authors of Quake 3 Fortress mod and Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory)
4. Doom3 engine is made on OpenGL; John Carmack likes opensource community quite a lot and occasionally posts comments on Slashdot :-). He GPLed their earlier engines, like doom, quake, quake2, quake3. I expect Doom3 to follow after a while.

Of course, it hardly ever happens that a software company declaces linux support for their game. They usually give vague responses. This is probably because managing support for all these different distros would be painful, considering that there are much fewer linux players.

It usually goes like this: no promises/info whatsover about linux version, then, out of sudden, about 2 weeks (or sooner) after windows release, linux binaries are released.

Splash Damage suggested that linux version is likely, by saying they have several linux fans in their office.

Ah, I forgot to mention one thing. I'm looking forward to ET:QW so much I will spend around 1.5 of my monthly earnings on new hardware, Geforce2 MX won't suffice. It's actually not so much, when you consider people don't earn obscene amount of money in Poland.
------------

ok, to clear some confusion: Enemy Territory:Quake Wars has nothing to do with Raven.
ET:QW is developed by Splash Damage (people responsible for Q3F and Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory) with cooperation from ID Software.
By the way: if you're wondering where all the former Raven employees are (people who made Heretic, Hexen, etc) - they're in HumanHead . HumanHead are authors of Rune and Prey.

From linuxgames.com:

id Software's annual fan convention, QuakeCon, is underway this weekend, and there's already been a fair amount of Linux-related information conveyed. During the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars presentation Thursday evening, id's Kevin Cloud and Splash Damage's Paul Wedgewood mentioned that there will be a Linux client of the game (this was also reiterated by Cloud today during the id Q&A panel). Wedgewood demonstrated one of the game's maps (I'll have a more in-depth write-up later) with the help of other id-affiliated developers, where the human GDI had to destroy a Strogg contamination facility, with the same emphasis on varied subgoals that was featured in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Speaking of today's Q&A with id, the question of Linux ports from id's engine licensees came up during the session. id CEO Todd Hollenshead stated that while id supports Linux because it makes sense for the company philosophically and technically, they can only provide licensees with the Linux source code and hope they have the time/money to use it. It was also noted that id maintains an OpenGL and Direct3D renderer for their unannounced internal project, and the OpenGL renderer exists to provide support for non-Windows/Xbox platforms (Tim Willits, id's lead designer, also noted that their dev tools are OpenGL-only). Also, despite statements in the previous year about Xbox 360 becoming a primary dev platform for id, Kevin Cloud re-affirmed that id is first and foremost a PC game developer.

Finally, Linux ports of the ET:QW editing tools seem unlikely, as it was stated during a modding Q&A for the game that they're MFC widget-based like previous id editors.

Bad news. The game was delayed again.

"The company believes at its fourth quarter results will be significantly impacted by higher legal expenses relating primarily to its internal review of historical stock option practices, including expenses relating to the previously announced informal SEC inquiry and derivative litigation, and its decision to move the release of Enemy Territory(TM): QUAKE Wars into fiscal year 2008"

The 2008 fiscal year begins April 1st 2007 and goes until March 2008 so who knows when this will be out.

I can't wait for Quake Wars. Finally there'll be a proper warfare game for linux in line with the Battlefield-series.

Take away Battlefields horrible networking, gamebrowser and punkbuster-incompatibility, and we've got a winner.

Prey was not ported to a linux game client, and it was based of the Doom3 engine.
