I'm a consultant who works at several different client sites, where I may not have authority to mess with the network and DHCP may not be available, and if DHCP is available, I might need a static address in a different range.
Mandrake had a thing for "profiles" to save network settings in different "profiles" that you could name, like Home, Office1, Office2 and so on, but I think that was part of the drakconf bundle of programs. Does anybody know of anything similar for Ubuntu / Debian type system? Any recommendations?
I have some ideas to try to do it "automagically" by sniffing network traffic, but thought I would see if anybody had already "invented that wheel" before I dig into it.
Edit: found etherconf plugin for debconf in "Universe" packages, will find out shortly what all that can do. I should have mentioned that I am using Hoary. I still like the automagic idea, could be an interesting project.
Edit: found laptop-netconf, maybe that is what I wanted...
