View Full Version : [ubuntu] Assigning internal domains

Instead of going to http://192.168.1.4/, I would like to set up an internal domain for my VM-server so that I can just type http://gw0rd/ or something and get the same result. I have already assigned a static IP to my Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit server (the example used above) and I am fiddling with bind9 but can't seem to get the result I want.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hi MichaelLerch.

How is the rest of your network?
Do you use a local DNS, like your router or other machine?

Regards.

Just recently, there were a couple of threads about this. See this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2077097). which has a link to another thread, that actually has some info, and further links.
